Shunning RAP (or any type) Music - Why the Hard Line by the WTS?
by Funchback ini grew up in the late 70's, early 80's.
i remember hearing the first rap song called 'rapper's delight' by the sugar hill gang.
then came kurtis blow and grand master flash and the furious five.

At Bethel, it was a witchhunt for those that had rap music in their rooms. I know a few brothers who were sent home because of it.

When does it become a cult?
by SpiceItUp inmatty and i have gotten several books lately.
right now we are both reading "30 years a watchtower slave" and "awakening of a jehovahs witness".
both we highly recommend.. anyway in the midst of it all he asked me: when did it turn into a cult?.
-
Black Man
It turned into a cult once they stopped being just BIBLE STUDENTS and started pushing the Faithful and Discreet Slave doctrine on peeps. Instead of reading and giving their thoughts on what they read, the fds doctrine gives them more authority because they are supposedly the mouthpiece of God.

Riding in the Backseat - A JW Rule?
by Funchback inthe jws have some peculiar rules regarding doing things with the opposite sex.
truly, the most bizzare one has to be the one about if a "brother" is driving along and he sees a "sister" waiting for a bus and he offers her a ride, in most cases he will make her sit in the backseat.
even more likely, the "sister" will turn down the ride because it may "stumble" someone who may see them together.

How about the open-door rule at Bethel? If you had a sister(s) in your room you had to keep your door open so that no one could conclude that you're sexin' up in there.

I need public/court records about what really happened in 1919
by truthseeker inthe society teaches that in 1919, jehovah and jesus christ inspected them (when they were still known as bible students) and promptly released them from babylonish captivity by freeing the officers of the watchtower bible & tract society from prison.. .
are there any public or court records to substantiate evidence against them, that they were released only by agreement that they would not publish certain chapters of a book, i can't remember the title .
in return the government agreed to release them.. .

Armageddon & 9/11
by Black Man inwhat's up, people?
been a while since i've posted.
anyhow, just thinking about 9/11 the other day as i was watching a special on tv which has made me realize that for years we were part of an organization that has looked forward to the death of the vast majority of mankind in much the same manner as the 9/11 tragedy (check out some of the pictures and witness porn from older publications especially).

There have been several instances when out in service that j-dubs are busy planning which house they would occupy once its tenants were destroyed by God at the "Big A." At Bethel, I remember many convos (particularly with bethel wives) where many expressed that they couldn't wait for Armageddon to come so that they could occupy buildings that are presently owned by "goats." DISTURBING..............

For me, I can't really put a dollar amount on it. But I will say I wasted at least 10 of the best years of my life in full-time service (pioneering, bethel) and gave up scholarship offers, chances to play sports, exposure to cultural things, etc.
